in the city of Sevilla:

Palacio de Alcazar
The fascinating, unmissable Alc‡zar dates back to 913. Entrenched within the beautiful palace complex are the remarkable stories behind the ruling forces that shaped the history of Seville and Spain. It has splendid stone carving, colorful ceramic work, and peaceful formal gardens.

    Plaza De España
In 1929 Seville hosted the Spanish-American Exhibition. A number of buildings were built for the exhibition in the Maria Luisa Park; on the parks edge was built the current Plaza de España. It was used as the 'Royal planet of Naboo' in a Starwars film.

    Barrio Santa Cruz
The famous Santa Cruz Barrio is the old historic Jewish quarter of the city. Its actual appearance with typical Sevillian style patios, narrow streets and picturesque plazas dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.

    Cathedral
The Cathedral of Seville was built in the 15th and 16th century in Gothic style on the grounds of the former major Arab mosque. It is the largest place of worship in Spain, and the third largest cathedral in the world. The interior of the cathedral is hugh and contains a large collection of artwork, paintings and gold detail.

    La Giralda
The Giralda minaret, sitting high upon the Cathedral steeple, is a masterpiece of Almohad architecture and contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

    Real Maestranza
A typical example of Spanish bullrings, you find yourself in the path of Christopher Columbus. It displays NeoClassic style and its construction began in 1760. It has a capacity of 13000 spectators.

    Archivo de Indias
The Archive of the Indies has since 1785 been the main archive of Spain's American empire. Its 8km of shelves hold 80 million pages of documents dating from 1492 through to the end of the empire in the 19th century. Hours: Fri 10:00am-1:00pm

    Antigua Fabrica de Tabacos
It may be part of the Universidad de Sevilla (Seville University) now, but the massive old tobacco factory used to be the cornerstone of the city's economy. The workplace of Bizet's operatic heroine Carmen was built in the 18th century and fed the nation's nicotine addiction right up until the mid-20th century.

    La Macarena
Macarena basilica is a modern church, built between 1936 and 1941 by architect Gomez Millan in Neo-Baroque style. The church and the neighborhood gets its name from Virgen de la Esperanza Macarena, sculpture, a beautiful sculpture of which stands in the center.

    Sevillanas
The first feria of the year is held in Seville during April and is certainly one of the largest, but each small town in Andalusia prides itself on its own week long festivity. Young couples have the opportunity to court, and the older people and children just to have fun.

    Italica Roman Ruins
Located just a few miles north of Seville, in the village of Santiponce lies one of the most important and largest Roman ruins in the whole of Spain. The Roman city of Italica demonstrates wonderful examples of Roman architecture, mosaic work and city layouts.

    Pabellon Mudejar
The Pabellon Mudejar is one of the Museums in the Parque de Maria Luisa which is definitely one of the cities most beautiful places. Although right in the heart of the city, it covers over 400,000 square metres of woodland and squares.

    Casa de Pilatos
The Casa de Pilatos is located next to the Plaza de Pilatos. The building is mainly from the 16th century and a mixture of Italian Renaissance and Spanish Mudíjar style. It is regarded as a "prototype" of an Andalusian palace.
